Studies on helminth parasites of the small field mouse (Apodemus microps) and the common vole (Microtus arvalis) from a pine forest in Hungary

چکیده
The helminth fauna of the small field mouse (Apodemus microps Kratochvil and Rosicky, 1952) and the common vole (Microtus arvalis Pallas, 1778) was studied in a pine forest at Babat (County Pest). A total of 9 parasitic helminths were recovered from the small field mouse, which is reported for the first time as a new host of Anoplocephaloides dentata, Hymenolepis fraterna, Hymenolepis diminuta and Hymenolepis muris-sylvatici. Only well-known helminths were found in common voles, but Heligmosomum costellatum was lacking. The prevalence of parasitic helminths in the two micromammalian species remained beyond what would have been expected. A remarkable seasonal difference was observed in parasite composition by sex of the host species.

Reduced helminth parasitism in the introduced bank vole (Myodes glareolus): More parasites lost than gained
Introduced species are often less parasitised compared to their native counterparts and to ecologically similar hosts in the new environment. Reduced parasitism may come about due to both the loss of original parasites and low acquisition of novel parasites. In this study we investigated the intestinal helminth parasites of the introduced bank vole (Myodes glareolus) in Ireland. Results were co...
متن کاملTula virus in populations of small terrestrial mammals in a rural landscape.
Over 5 years (2000-2004), populations of small mammals from a rural landscape in southern Moravia (Czech Republic) were investigated for the presence of Tula virus (TULV) antigen using the ELISA set Hantagnost. In total, 1566 individuals from 10 species were examined. The prevalence in the common vole (Microtus arvalis Pallas 1778), the main reservoir of TULV, was 10% (n = 871). The prevalence ...

In a survey of game animals and small mammals, the sera of 185 animals were examined for the presence of immunoglobulin G antibodies to the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato, which causes Lyme borreliosis. These animals comprised 59 fallow deer (Dama dama), 56 mouflons (Ovis musimon) and 70 small mammals of six different species. The sera of the fallow deer and the mouflons were examin...
متن کاملA refined method for craniometrical identification of the sibling vole species Microtus arvalis and Microtus rossiaemeridionalis in Europe and the Asiatic part of Turkey
On the basis of karyologically identified individuals of the common vole Microtus arvalis and the sibling vole Microtus rossiaemeridionalis from Europe and the Asiatic part of Turkey, a canonical craniometric classification function for the differentiation of these sibling species was worked out. The function is sex-independent and includes four craniometric parameters measured in millimeters (...
متن کاملInduced Pluripotent Stem Cells of Microtus levis x Microtus arvalis Vole Hybrids: Conditions Necessary for Their Generation and Self-Renewal.
Every year, the list of mammalian species for which cultures of pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) are generated increases. PSCs are a unique tool for extending the limits of experimental studies and modeling different biological processes. In this work, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from the hybrids of common voles Microtus levis and Microtus arvalis, which are used as model objects to stu...
